Embreeville Settlement Agreement
The Embreeville Settlement Agreement is a federal court agreement that mandated the closing of Embreeville, a major state center. This landmark decision called for teams of people with disabilities and family members to monitor services for the people who were able to make the transition from the state center to the community.
Today our teams continue to meet with and visit these class members along with their community match to meet their needs and to insure a level of quality of services.
Our emphasis is on establishing relationships with people over time and listening to their choices.
The Embreeville Class Members and their allies, through the teams, have given service providers valuable information and a clearer understanding of what they want and need from the service system and to check the suitability of services.

A letter from Sheila McLeod, Consumer/ Family Satisfaction Team Coordinator
Certainly, as I reflect on the past years, the amount of work done from this small department has been and continues to be fantastic. Consumer / Family Satisfaction Team Leaders do a phenomenal job! What sticks out in my mind the most about the work of CFST is a letter, a little hand written letter that the Team Leader receives each time they have a visit with one of "our people". A young lady writes thanking the team for coming out to see her and having an interest in how things are going in her life; she always ends the letters with, "have a happy day and come back soon". Usually before the visits the team will have a wonderful conversation with her mother who worries about not being able to check on her daughter, age 60, as much as she has in the past due to her own health concerns, and her mother will ask, "Are you all going out again soon?" These letters and requests from families to go out and see how their loved ones are doing are at the core of what sets CFST apart from the other services available to people who receive Mental Retardation services. That is not to say the other services are not valuable and needed, it is just nice that CFST is not always seen as a service but as people interested in really knowing how others are doing and what is making a difference in their everyday lives.
