A letter from Sheila McLeod, CFST Coordinator

Certainly, as I reflect on the past years, the amount of work done from this small department has been and continues to be fantastic. CFST Team Leaders do a phenomenal job!

What sticks out in my mind the most about the work of CFST is a letter,  a little hand written letter that the Team Leader receives each time they have a visit with one of “our people”.  A young lady writes thanking the team for coming out to see her and having an interest in how things are going in her life.

She always ends the letters with, “have a happy day and come back soon”.  Usually before the visits the team will have a wonderful conversation with her mother who worries about not being able to check on  her daughter, age 60, as much as she has in the past due to her own health concerns, and her mother will ask, “Are you all going out again soon?”

These letters and requests from families to go out and see how their loved ones are doing are at the core of what sets CFST apart from the other services available to people who receive MR services. That is not to say the other services are not valuable and needed, it is just nice that CFST is not always seen as a service but as people interested in really knowing how others are doing and what is making a difference in their everyday lives.
