Family Leadership Toolkit
Pennsylvania recognizes parents and caregivers as a child’s first and most influential
teachers, as well as essential partners in building strong, responsive systems for
families and communities.
As powerful agents of change, their lived experiences, insights, and leadership are vital
to shaping programs, policies, and practices that genuinely meet the needs of children
and families. Their involvement helps shape policies and funding decisions more
effectively, reflecting the real needs of families and children.
By contributing their lived experiences, they influence program design, ensuring
services and resources are culturally relevant and community-centered for their families
and the broader population. This boosts participation and ensures services are
accessible and inclusive. As advocates, they spotlight service gaps and drive systemic
improvements, especially for underrepresented and underserved families. In leadership
roles, they use their firsthand knowledge to guide continuous program improvement,
helping shape services that genuinely work for families.
