PA Family Network

The PA Family Network was created under the leadership of Vision for Equality and is supported by the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) as part of Pennsylvania’s Community of Practice: Supporting Families Throughout the Lifespan. The mission of the Pennsylvania Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) is to support Pennsylvanians with developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence, choice and opportunity in their lives.

In 2016, ODP joined the national Community of Practice: Supporting Families throughout the Lifespan. The Community of Practice initiative involves working to transform state policies, practices and systems to better assist and support families that include a member with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. The goal of the collaboration is to support families in ways that maximize their capacity to facilitate the achievement of self-determination, integration and inclusion in all facets of community life for their family members.

The core belief of the Community of Practice: Supporting Families throughout the lifespan…

“All people and their families have the right to live, love, work, play, learn, and pursue their life aspirations in their community”

To support ODP and the major elements of the Community of Practice goals, the PA Family Network was created under the leadership of Vision for Equality.

NEW-Community Engagement

When COVID-19 rocked Pennsylvania, we learned some very important things about ourselves as families and our ability to adapt. The most important thing that we learned is that family matters more than we realize, and families did – indeed – rise to the occasion. In the wake of the pandemic, we’re eager to offer a host of workshops, summits, and microlearning opportunities geared towards helping families and individuals reengage with their communities. Every three months, we will focus on a new topic with the overarching themes of Wellness, Resilience, and Community Engagement. All workshops are presented by individuals with disabilities and family members. The themes include:

  • Future Planning and Living Options
  • Pandemics, Health Equity, and Being Prepared
  • Maximizing Potential- Technology and Remote Supports
  • Doing it My Way- Participant Directed Services
  • Wellness and Resiliency
